Performance: Untitled (emotional shadows) – Lydia Östberg Diakité

Doors 19:00 ● On stage 19:20 ● 60 min

How does one move through a state of apathy and anxiety? Is it possible to escape embodied memories when the mind tries to forget and move on?

Untitled (emotional shadows) explores the notion of trying as a way to navigate emotional noise and endure constant states of tension. The work negotiates with dissonance, and the absurdity of performing normalcy. It exists in the glitch, the liminal space of routine, and the ongoing double standards of something called reality.

Lydia Östberg Diakité is an artist whose practice explores emotional, political and fictional landscapes through choreography, performance, video, text, and installation. Working with intuitive knowledge and poetic association, her work moves through layered gestures,  fragmented narratives and sampled elements to question and explore how experiences live in and through the body. Diakité’s ongoing practice centers on the body’s capacity to hold, transform, and resist, opening up spaces between memory, representation, and existing.

Based in Copenhagen, Diakité graduated from the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Dance and Choreography in 2017. Her work has been presented in a range of institutional and independent contexts including Moderna Museet (Stockholm), Nikolaj Kunsthal (Copenhagen), Berlin Biennale 11 (Berlin), among others.

Beautiful Experiments is a series of meditations by artists and art practitioners. It unravels form, unbuttons language, and embraces process as its central methodology. Resisting expectation, it turns towards the radical possibilities of imagination—towards ways of living and creating the ‘otherwise’.
