Carlsson work primarily with sculpture and drawing. She often uses mechanical, historical, spiritual phenomenon and perspectives as a reference point. In recent years her work has been exhibited at Bor\u00e5s International Sculpture Biennial, Gallery Thomas Wallner, IAC, Krognoshuset, Edsvik Konsthall and Ystad Art Museum.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the stipend exhbition at Sk\u00e5nes konstf\u00f6rening the work <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expedition\/Skomakarlunga<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2015), will be exhibited. A body, painstakingly forced to breathe in and out by the help of a compressor. Inspired by a machine used by cobblers and Andr\u00e9es polar expedition, our mind is led to a sleigh being pulled across the ice and a tedious life-sustaining work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The work is inspired by a machine I saw at my friend Severino Zia\u00b4s, a legendary shoemaker that used to be at J\u00e4gersrov\u00e4gen in Malm\u00f6. Zia made shoes for the former Pope, Queen Silvia and a variety of people with particular feets that he casted off and made new lasts for. He also made a copy of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karl<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> XI&#8217;s boot to me, that I casted in bronze a few years ago. Severino sadly died two years ago. He loved the work by the hand and was able to talk at length about the joy handcraft gave him. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was convinced that well handmade shoes extends the life of the one who wears them. He was convinced that he could live for at least 150 years with the help of a spiral and pyramid design that would convey the cosmic forces to him. The construction was difficult to finance and never saw the light of day, which is a shame since a lot of his knowledge disappeared with him.<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Linn\u00e9a Carlsson<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The scholarship will be awarded on\u00a0Friday, April 7th at 18:00 &#8211; 19:00\u00a0at Sk\u00e5ne Art Association, Bragegatan 15, Malmo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>About Ester Almqvists Memorial Fund<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ester Dorothea Almqvist (1869-1934) was one of the artists who paved the way for the breakthrough of modernism in Sweden. Her art was marked by expressionism\u2019s intense color saturation, and \u2013 above all \u2013 an outspoken alignment that allowed full freedom in her powerful and dynamically composed paintings. She often depicted Landscapes, where the motifs completely penetrated, well animated, the painterly gesture. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among her close friends we find some of the great contemporary artists of the time; Tora Vega Holmstr\u00f6m, Maja Fjaestad, Maj Bring, Siri Derkert and Vera Nilsson among others. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During 1992 Ester Almqvist\u2019s artistic practice got international attention, when the United Nations chose her painting <i>Gathering<\/i> (1929) as a motive for one of six stamps in a series that celebrates the Declaration of Human Rights. Almqvists painting illustrates Article 20: \u201dEveryone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ester Almqvists Memorial Fund was established in 1965 with the aim of managing the assets entrusted by Ester\u2019s sister, Maria Almqvist (1871-1964). Each year one or several artists working in Sk\u00e5ne are awarded a stipend. Since the the fund was established sixty artists has received stipends from Ester Almqvists Memorial Fund. During 2016 the stipend was awarded for the fortieth time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Foundation Board in 2016 consisted\u00a0of:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joacim Sprung (Chairman), Senior Lecturer in Art History and Visual Studies, Lund University.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00c5sa Nacking, director of the Lund Konsthall<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dan J\u00f6nsson, art critic<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bianca Maria Barmen, artist<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sebastian Dahlqvist, Sk\u00e5ne konstf\u00f6rening<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2016 \u00e5rs Ester Almqvist-stipendium tilldelas konstn\u00e4ren Linn\u00e9a Carlsson.<br \/>\nLinn\u00e9a Carlsson \u00e4r f\u00f6dd 1975 i Kalmar och gick ut konsth\u00f6gskolan i Malm\u00f6 2008.
