Jonatan Habib Engqvist will talk and think out loud with us about how\u00a0administrative and bureaucratic language and the work it entails affects our\u00a0<\/span>bodies, thought and actions, Jonathan writes:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I was going to try to talk about desires versus loyalty, the idea of \u200b\u200bthe different\u00a0kinds of audiences and why it can sometimes be healthy to not expand your\u00a0<\/span>business. Hopefully, this will make sense in that I share with you some different\u00a0experiences of working in and with different types of institutions. It may be that we\u00a0<\/span>will talk about the difference between asking for permission and asking for\u00a0<\/span>forgiveness, trust and control, and how one can relate to different regulations.\u00a0<\/span>Through concrete comparisons between the Nordic countries money distribution\u00a0<\/span>systems, mixed with practical examples (micro and macro), we can try to see how\u00a0<\/span>one can creates space for the unexpected, and how one attempts to enable a large a\u00a0<\/span>part of the budget as possible into the artworks or directly to the artists. The idea is\u00a0<\/span>for this to become more of a conversation than a regular lecture.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is an attempt at a practical field study on on cultural institutions scope for\u00a0action. By zooming in on specific exmples, we want to show how what\u2019s on paper\u00a0<\/span>might appear abstract and look like general directives, but in fact has practical\u00a0<\/span>effects and what kind of habits they may generate in our daily lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lecture is the second in the serie Conversations on Populism<\/em>, a serie of four\u00a0lectures at Sk\u00e5nes konstf\u00f6rening which explores the possibilities to focus on\u00a0<\/span>power\u00a0structures, integrity, populism and artistic autonomy within the field of\u00a0<\/span>art. Conversations on Populism The question asked is if\u00a0there is a way to do this\u00a0<\/span>without being populist, over educational, functional and target oriented.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jonatan Habib Engqvist<\/strong> works as a curator, writer and teacher in art theory at\u00a0the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm. Engqvist has previously worked at\u00a0<\/span>Moderna Museet and IASPIS, and been part of a series of curatorial teams like No\u00a0<\/span>Bad Days at Kalmar Art Museum (2015) and Tunnel Vision, Momentum 8, the\u00a0<\/span>Nordic Art Biennial in Moss, Norway (2015). Together with Lars-Erik Hjertstr\u00f6m\u00a0<\/span>Lappalainen and Annika von Hausswolff he run the online platform tsnok.se,\u00a0<\/span>who wishes to conduct irregular art criticism backwards and breaking with the\u00a0<\/span>normative exhibition regime. In 2015 he founded (CRIS Curatorial Residency in\u00a0<\/span>Stockholm) in collaboration with the NKF, Nordic Art Association, and works at\u00a0the moment with Bouchra Khalili for a solo exhibition at F\u00e4rgfabriken in\u00a0<\/span>Stockholm.<\/span><\/p>\n
