The lecture is given in English.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Tan&#8217;s video <i>Waves<\/i> (2015) is currently on view in the exhibition <i>On the pulse of water <\/i>at Sk\u00e5nes konstf\u00f6rening (23 Sept \u2013 29 Oct 2023), which also includes works by CUSS Group, Runo Lagomarsino, Tabita Rezaire, curated by Tawanda Appiah. The exhibition contemplates history, points of contact, language, affect, and satire, all unfurling through the fluid lens of the screen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this occasion, artist Lisa Tan will share a small selection of works, with an eye on the role that failure and disappointment has played in her working process. The talk will also include a short presentation on her solo exhibition currently on view in Stockholm at Accelerator (16 Sept, 2023 \u2013 11 Feb, 2024), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dodge and\/or Burn<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There, she presents both new and existing works that act together in a unified gesture, grounded in an illustration by famed neurologist and writer Oliver Sacks of the physiological organisation of migraines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hour-long lecture will include a special screening of the video, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dodge and Burn<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2021\u201323), which tracks the artist\u2019s consecutive attempts to film fireworks on the Fourth of July, the American Independence Day, from the vantage point of a passenger on a commercial airliner destined for Los Angeles. The work has developed as a way to grapple with sensory overload and the varied proximity of an individual to violence and exploitation in current times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Artist bio<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The work of Lisa Tan (born New York, 1973) is imbued with personal narrative and is marked by material and conceptual precision. It takes the form of installation, photography, video, writing and other gestures. She is currently Professor of Art at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions and screenings at institutions such as Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam (2022), Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2021), Tabakalera, San Sebastian (2021), Whitechapel Gallery, London (2020), MIT List Center (2017), Kunsthall Trondheim (2017), ICA Philadelphia (2016).
